This was the most fun that I have ever had playing checkers. Not only did we have to draw our own game board using charcoal, but we also had to draw and redraw our game pieces as we played. I totally kicked butt in this game =). It was a great experience and a great way to get to know our fellow classmates. I also found that I had to let go of so called “mistakes” within the piece, something that I feel will help me in future projects.

This project challenged us to look at the world the way that Deibenkorn would have. I found this to be rather challenging simply because I do not typically create art such as these photos. I do, however, have a greater appreciation for the work and the artists who are able to create amazing pieces with these (unlike myself). I think that this is truly an interesting way to exercise our eyes and practice seeing art everywhere, no matter what surrounds us.

This project was a group effort. Two others and I worked together in order to create this piece of art full of depth. Using about 5 pieces of plexiglass and three different colors of paper, we combined our talents to create this masterpiece. I personally, however, felt as though this project was slightly too tedious for my liking, but the results were pretty cool in the end. It isn’t really one that I care to repeat, but is one that I like to look back on.

This was by far my favorite assignment all year. I want to do this periodically for the rest of my life =). This is, in my opinion the best way to give one’s talent to the world. The instructor had all of us check out four or five books and then create book mark size masterpieces to go inside of each one based on what we thought (or knew) the book to be related to. I personally would love to find these little treasures in random books that I checked out of the library and think that this is by far one of the most creative projects that we did all semester.

I was unfortunately absent on the day of this project and am therefore not completely sure what the assignment was. I do,however, find this image (along with many others that I looked at) to be quite interesting. I am a big fan of making art from found objects or objects that would otherwise seem ordinary, and think that this project is probably a good way to open the mind to such ideas.

This was another project that I am uneasy about calling my own. The reason being that it is nothing more than a copy of a deibenkorn painting. I did, however, have a lot of fun with this project because I got to work with another student in the class. We were able to pull or talents together and recreate something very true to the original.

I have mixed feelings about his project simply because it was done through copying. We were told to look up a single word or phrase on google and print off about 15 images that went along with it. We then traced them under mylar in the same pattern as diebenkorn photos that we took, which are posted as well. I like the results but am not really comfortable signing my name to this.

This was an assignment in which we were to listen to a music void of words and draw what it is that we heard. I chose the intro track to my best friend’s band and this is what I came up with. Suprisingly enough, this project came very easily to me and I really really enjoyed it. I makes me think about what music looks like now when I listen to it and I have noticed that I am much more inspired by what I hear, not just by what I see. I hope to do more of these in the future because I really think that the can open up the mind to new and creative ideas.

This project is one that I found to be very very difficult. It took me forever to come up with my compositions and even now I find myself rather unhappy with the results. The assignment was to simply create 2D compositions using only candy. I am not sure why this boggled my mind so much, but I definetly do not want to repeat this project. I do, however, really like the other students’ results with this project and think that the overall idea behind the project was well thought out. It is simply not one that suits me.

Pan’s Labyrinth

The extra that I have chosen from this film shows up in scene 19 where the character Mercedes is caught in the circle of horsemen while facing potential death for having defied the captain of the Spanish village. The extra is a horseman who, once the horsemen undergo a surprise attack by the guerillas that they have so desperately tried to stop, rides through the scene. He is wearing the common uniform amongst the captain’s men on a brown horse and appears to be swaggering from left to right ever so slightly. The swagger seems to hint toward the fact that he, along with most of the other men working for the captain, has been shot and will soon die. The audience is not given a full view of the extra’s face, reinforcing the fact that he is no more than an extra in the scene.

            This extra serves the purpose of filling in the negative space within the scene while simultaneously adding to the drama of the attack taking place. The director most likely chose to place the extra in this particular scene so as to make evident the vulnerability of the captain’s men at this point. The captain’s men are supposed to have so much more power than the guerillas and yet in this seemingly split second, they are all killed in the midst of trying to capture one woman.
